Social Innovation ProgramSchool of Social Sciences, Waseda UniversityFrom Montrose School (Massachusetts, US)Class of 2018, who joined Peking University Double Degree Program, and went on to work at CitibankJapanAftergraduatinghighschoolfromtheUS,IdecidedtoembarkonanewjourneytojoinSSSatWasedaUniversitywithadesiretolearnmoreaboutJapaneselanguageandculture.Initially,mylifeinJapanwasquitechallengingasIdidnotspeakfluentJapanese,however,thedynamicenvironmentandthefriendlyfacultiesofSSSencouragedmetoovercomealotofadversity.Forexample,myclassmatesoriginatedfromallovertheworld,includingKorea,Japan,China,Mexico,USandUK,andthroughinteractionswiththemduringclass,Iwasabletogainnewperspectivesandlearnfromthediverseexperienceseveryonesharedinclass.TheSSSclassroomimmersedmeinacross-culturalenvironmentandallowedmetomastereffectivecommunicationskillsacrossdifferentcultures.Also,Ibelievethatoneofthemostimportantfactorsinstudents’successinuniversityistheinteractionwithfacultymembers.IamverythankfulthatSSSofferedgreatinteractionopportunitieswiththefacultymembersaswell,wheretheyhavebeengreatmentorsinvariousareassuchasinternship,studyingabroad,andjobhuntingaswell.The4yearsthatIhadinSSSwerepricelessandIwilldefinitelyrecommendjoiningtheTAISIprogrambecauseitprovidesaconducivelearningenvironment,anditalsoallowedmetoidentifynewpassionandequippedmewithbothacademicandcommunicationskillsessentialforachievingtheroleinmycurrentcompanyaswell.37TAISI offered me the life-changing power of great mentorshipCHOI, Yuri(Republic of Korea)
