13SILS does not have “majors.” Instead, students can study a variety of academic fields that have been categorized into seven diverse “clusters” (subject groups) independently, broadly and in depth, in accordance with their own interests and concerns. We envision “liberal arts” as an open-minded and flexible mentality that transcends the boundaries of academia, regardless of whether it is in the humanities, sciences, or another area of study. In today's increasingly complex society, there are many problems that conventional academic approaches cannot compete with. Knowledge from various fields comes together at SILS, and by engaging in dialogue, students approach problems from new perspectives and open the way to the future by themselves. We will nurture human resources who are capable of taking on such a role.Courses in each cluster are divided into three levels: introductory, intermediate, and advanced. This allows students to construct their own “learning” according to their interests, from introductory education to the acquisition of advanced expertise.* For introductory courses, which are primarily taken by students in their first year, students are required to take classes from at least three different clusters.*There is no limit to the number of clusters a student can take.Introduction toArtificial IntelligenceInvitation toNatural SciencesDinosaurs: Discovery and ResearchIntermediate CalculusIntermediate Data Science Theoretical Astrophysics ClustersSample Course ListIntroduction to Italian StudiesHistory of Premodern JapanState and Society in the Middle EastInternational History ofWar and PeaceHistory of Metaphysicsand of its CritiqueModern British HistoryIntroduction to Marketing Quantitative Methods for Economics MacroeconomicsJapanese EconomyEnterprise and GovernanceMechanism Design in PracticeIntroduction to Peace and Conflict StudiesIntroduction to Direct DemocracyElections and Electoral SystemsMinorities and the Law in the United States The Politics and International Relations of the European UnionJapan's Foreign Policy Life, Environment, Matter and InformationPhilosophy, Religion and HistoryEconomyand BusinessGovernance, Peace, and International Human Rights RelationsClusters and LecturesLiberal StudiesTackling Global Issues from Seven Perspectives
