We provide a broad array of courses, avoiding confinement to specific fields. Simultaneously, students desiring a deeper exploration of specialized areas can opt for one of the currently offered 12 Concentrations. By selecting courses from the Concentration's course list and achieving the necessary credits, students can acquire a completion certificate for the chosen Concentration. Through Concentrations, students can acquire foundational knowledge in their chosen field, preparing them for advanced studies in graduate school. Additionally, in job-seeking endeavors, expertise in a particular field becomes an appealing asset, complementing the advantages of a liberal arts education. Why not consider choosing a Concentration?■ American Studies ■ Economics ■ European Studies ■ Global Governance ProfessorHAYAKAWA, Yu■ History ■ International Relations ■ Linguistics ■ Literature I applied for a place at SILS because I liked how you can graduate with or without a Concentration. Before I entered university I was interested in a variety of fields, and I was not confident that I would be able to choose a Concentration in my 4 years. To my surprise, in my second semester at SILS, I realised that I enjoyed courses in Linguistics more than any other course and thus quickly enrolled in the Linguistics Concentration. SILS offers Linguistics courses in several areas, so I was able to take classes in Phonetics and Phonology, Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Syntax, but I particularly enjoyed studying Sociolinguistics - the study of the relationship between language and society. By gradually taking increasingly challenging classes in the field of Linguistics, I feel like I gained the background knowledge needed to start to think about the ideas discussed in class critically. I believe that the critical thinking skills that one can gain from completing a Concentration can be really useful even after graduation, and I thus strongly recommend the program.■ Mathematical Sciences ■ Media Studies ■ Philosophy ■ Political Economy of International Development At SILS, students can study a wide range of academic fields. This program has been established to enable them to study specific ones in a structured way. Students who have earned the required number of credits in courses designated by each Concentration (field of study) are eligible to receive a certificate of completion for that Concentration upon graduation. More than 50 students complete Concentrations each semester.CHEONG, Zhi Yin Admitted in April 2018 Graduate of Anglo-Chinese Junior College (Singapore)Developing critical thinking skills through the Concentration ProgramFields of Concentration ProgramLearn Broadly and DeeplySystematic and In-depth Learning#Concentration Program
