Understanding the world, helping others to understand Japan, getting a proper grasp of social and cultural differences across communities and how these differences can impact all the other fields covered in our curriculum, from economy to politics, education, and art, is what plurilingual-multicultural education is about. To fully acknowledge the diversity of the world, Japanese and global English are no longer enough: all languages are pathways to a sharper vision of what different communities are, think, and aspire to. As part of the MEXT Top Global University project, the APM program strengthens our students’ skills through the CLIL approach in Chinese, French, Korean, and Spanish, and prepares them for academic and professional expertise in these languages.Introductory Lecture Course (in English) Intermediate Lecture Course (in English) Environmental and Climate Change Intermediate Lecture Course (in English and L3*) Intermediate Lecture Course (in English and L3*) Intermediate Lecture Course (in L3*) Advanced Lecture Course (in English) Advanced Lecture Course (in English and L3*) Advanced Lecture Course (in L3*) *L3:French, Spanish, Chinese, KoreanThe APM program (Area Studies and Plurilingual / Multicultural Education Program) focuses on French, Spanish, Chinese and Korean. In addition to studying the languages as a matter of course, the program uses them to develop the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) method, which brings together the content and the language for instruction, where students learn about topics pertaining to those countries―such as culture, history, the economy, and politics―from multiple perspectives.Even if students do not study abroad in the country of the language they chose, they may take some or all of the APM courses. It is also possible to take courses in more than one language (e.g., a student who has taken an introductory APM course in French may take an intermediate APM course in Chinese).ProfessorDETEY, Sylvain Matthieu JulienA French PerspectiveHistory of Political Ideas: Policies in France and JapanUnderstanding French Culture French CLIL preparation for study-abroad in a French-speaking country Understanding French Politics Advanced Perspectives on Women in Politics: A Comparative StudyI started learning Spanish when I entered college and went to study abroad at the University of Barcelona in Spain during the fall semester of my sophomore year. The APM classes are welcome to students of all language levels, and you can experience discussions and role-plays in which everyone can participate. There are also many fascinating courses with quizzes and workshops that make learning fun and engaging. Classes are small, and the environment allows students to actively challenge themselves even if they are not confident in their language skills. In addition to improving my language skills, I was also able to learn about Spanish and South American culture and customs, giving me the basic knowledge I needed for my study abroad destination. The APM classes can also give you hints for choosing a study abroad destination and an opportunity to develop an interest in other cultures. These courses are the best preparation for studying abroad. They can also be used to maintain language skills after studying abroad.Introduction to Spain and Latin America: History, Society and Culture Introduction to Area Study Methods  Spanish Language through Area and global governance (Spanish Studies; International organizations CLIL-preparation for study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country)Spanish Language through Area Studies: a cultural and linguistic approach to Latin AmericaStudy Abroad International relations between Spain, Latin-America and Japan : A socio-cultural approachHispanism in Japan The taste of international relations: gastro-diplomacy in Spain and its relations with JAPANSociological Study on Local Government in Contemporary China The History of Chinese Sociology in the 20th CenturyThe Analects of Confucius: a Seminar of Close Reading ※2022年度実績 *L3:French, Spanish, Chinese, KoreanRealist Literature in KoreaA Critical Understanding of Korean Society through the Lens of Sexuality Understanding the Korean Democracy MovementBuilding Nation States in Two Koreas after ColonialismRecent Approaches to Korean Culture and SocietyAs of AY2023Starting from zero and succeeding in my study abroad destinationLearn Broadly and DeeplyLearning about Multiple Cultures in Many Languages#APM Program
