One field of particular interest was Race and Gender Studies. Through interacting with diverse peers and esteemed faculty members, I was able to deepen my understanding of racial and gender-based discrimination prevalent in our daily life, especially as someone who has lived overseas. Through these dialogues, I also came to recognize the crucial role of social and economic inequality in perpetuating discrimination. This realization prompted me to explore potential solutions for fostering diversity within a capitalist framework, which led me to study the field of economics at the University of Vienna during the study abroad program. I am now applying this knowledge to my graduation research project, in the Seminar on Governance, focusing on the Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) practices in Japanese companies. My experience in the liberal arts program has been instrumental in cultivating my multifaceted perspective, and it remains a significant contributor to my ongoing personal development.HIGASHI, SaraAdmitted in April 2020Graduate of Yokohama Senior High School of International Studies (Japan)Examples of LearningUtilizing the multifaceted perspective developed through SILS and one year of study abroadCommunicationExpressionCulture,Mind and Body, and CommunityFROM STUDENT
