Urban SchoolParis School of International Affairs ( PSIA )08I studied environmental science at University College of Freiburg in Germany. Freiburg is known as an environmentally friendly city, and I had been interested in their study program since I got into Waseda. I took seminars and a project-based course on environmental science where I learned different impacts of climate change and approaches of climate mitigation, and I became more aware of climate action. Moreover, I feel more responsible for my own behavior in regard to environmental impact, as I got along with peer students and other internationals who choose vegan diet or transportation with less carbon footprint on a daily basis from the perspective of environmental protection. These real experiences throughout the exchange program influenced my everyday behaviors a lot, which I think would not have happened without the year abroad. After the year in Germany, I belong to the seminar class on urban study where we learn sustainable urban planning, and my interest has expanded to designing of infrastructure for environmentally friendly means of transportation.Experience in my year abroad has made me more conscious of carbon footprint by our lives, and therefore I would like to keep learning how to develop a sustainable society. I hope your time abroad brings new interests and opportunities in your future career.IKOMA, Sorami Admitted in April 2020 Graduate of Nara Senior High School (Japan) Host Institution: University College FreiburgFudan University (1year program) Peking University (1year program) China Hong Kong Chinese University of Hong Kong (2year program) Singapore National University of Singapore (2year program)I studied abroad at Roanoke College in Virginia, U.S. Since I wanted to enhance my academic interests, I chose Roanoke College which serves liberal arts education. In addition to taking classes within my academic interests, I took an Education Studies class, which I did not have much interest in at first. I really struggled to prepare for and speak up during classes. However, I had chances to visit local elementary schools during my Education Studies class. This experience got me interested in learning about inequalities between races in American society. After studying abroad, I joined a seminar to learn about American society, specifically focusing on the Civil Rights movements. Studying abroad not only enhanced my academic interests, but also broadened other areas that I want to get involved in with my future career. I hope you have wonderful experiences studying abroad and during your college life.South Korea Korea University (1.5year program)Taiwan Thailand U.S. National Taiwan University (1.5year program) Chulalongkorn University (2year program) Earlham College (2year program)TANAKA, Miku Admitted in April 2018 Graduate of Kawawa Senior High School (Japan) Host Institution: Roanoke CollegeIn the Double Degree Program, students who study abroad for one or two years at a prestigious overseas university and meet the prescribed requirements will be able to earn degrees both at SILS and at their study abroad destinations.
