The School of International Liberal Studies, based on the Waseda University mission set forth by the founder Shigenobu Okuma, is committed to educating students who will contribute to the world. Specifically, we aim to educate students who can look at things from a broad perspective, consider various possibilities, think quantitatively, share diverse values, and make the best choices at the time. Our education is a liberal arts education that does not specialize in a particular field of study. Students from all over the world engage in lively discussions and friendly competition, evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each opinion, and search for the best possible answer at that point in time. Since quantitative views are important in discussions, introductory statistics is set as a compulsory course in order to improve students’ quantitative skills. As we celebrate 20 years since the establishment of our school, we would like to put even more effort into educating students who can become future world leaders.SILS does not have “majors.” Students will study a wide variety of subjects without specializing in a particular field of expertise, and acquire interdisciplinary viewpoints across many areas. In this program, which focuses on the French, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean languages, students will learn the culture, history, economy, and politics of these countries from multiple perspectives while acquiring language skills. In order for students to hone their multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives, SILS classifies its course offerings into seven “clusters” (groups of subjects). A key feature of SILS is the fact that students can build their own studies from a wide range of options, according to their own interests. Students can choose to study across several clusters of subjects, or focus on a specific field of expertise. The main focus is on interactive classes that promote discussions, excellent communication skills and strong presentation skills. As Statistics is the basis for many academic fields, it is a mandatory course. This system allows students to engage in specialized in-depth studies in a single field (Concentration). Upon graduation, students are eligible to receive a certificate of completion in their field.#Liberal Studies#APM Program#Small Group Education #Introductory Statistics#Concentration ProgramLearn Broadly and DeeplyLiberal StudiesSILSSILS?
