This led me to study Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Waseda University. The English-based curriculum and vibrant international community allow me to engage with diverse perspectives while immersing myself in Japanese culture. The program has a comprehensive structure. In the first year, we take foundational science courses, and from there, we build up our specialized areas by exploring various disciplines in CEE through lectures and labs. In the fourth year, we focus on our chosen niche by conducting research and writing our thesis under the mentorship of professors who are experts in their fields. Small class sizes contribute to productive discussions and meaningful connections with both peers and faculty, while guest lectures from industry leaders provide invaluable real-world insights. At its core, civil engineering is about engineering for society, and the CEE department embodies this philosophy. Learning from professors who have made significant contributions both domestically and internationally inspires us to approach the field not just with technical knowledge but also with a mindset geared toward creating a lasting societal impact.I have always wanted to experience life and communicate in as many ways as possible, exploring cultural manifestations worldwide with an open mind. Japanese culture, however, captured my curiosity with its unique blend of tradition and modernity, inspiring me to delve into its arts and language. Discovering JCulP felt like a perfect match since it offers an English-based curriculum that combines all my interests. Now, as part of Waseda, I am able to engage in cultural exchanges within my program and with students and professors from multiple backgrounds. Even in my first year, I am confident that these experiences will broaden my understanding of diverse perspectives while allowing me to contribute my own. I look forward to further developing the skills needed to bridge cultural gaps, using art and language as tools to foster meaningful global connections.Being at the center of Tokyo, studying in Waseda is an opportunity of a lifetime. Tokyo is one of the most happening cities in the world, apart from being a major tech hub. Studying at Waseda enables you to interact with bright minds from all over the world. You can make friends, compete and collaborate with students from different faculties and backgrounds, each possessing unique qualities. I have made countless memories these past years at Waseda, which helped me become a better version of myself. With regular events and competitions, every day at Waseda is a day to remember.María José Arbeláez MontesSchool of Culture, Media and Society Global Studies in Japanese Cultures Program (JCulP)Graduated from San Bartolomé la Merced SchoolKHAN, Mahir asifSchool of Fundamental Science and Engineering Major in Computer Science and Communications Engineering Graduated from S.F.X Greenherald International SchoolRiya JoshiThe School of Creative Science and Engineering Major in Civil and Environmental Engineering Graduated from India International School in Japan (IISJ)
