The synthesis of the study of political science and economics was innovative at that time and lies at the cutting edge of contemporary academia, both in Japan and globally. The School remains true to its founding goal of advancing scientific understanding of political and economic phenomena. The SPSE offers specialized degree programs in political science and economics that are fully comparable in quality to majors in these disciplines at top universities around the world. While keeping a low student-to-faculty ratio, we offer a wide variety of courses that balance our School's traditions with a modern approach to both political science and economics. Our curriculum provides a systematic progression from introductory to advanced courses, and numerous opportunities to participate in seminars. The seminars offer an exceptionally high degree of specialization, bringing academic research and undergraduate education together. SPSE students can also take classes outside their chosen field of specialization and gain exposure to a rich canvass of knowledge and skills, including quantitative and qualitative methods training, theoretical and applied reasoning techniques, and abstract and historically grounded models of the world. Our goal is to equip students with the skills needed to succeed in a changing world through academic excellence and intellectual freedom.FeaturesSchool of Political Scienceand Economics
