環境・エネルギー研究科長小野田 弘士ONODA, HiroshiDean, Graduate School ofEnvironment and Energy Engineering1　環境・エネルギー研究科（以下、本研究科）は、2005年度に発足した早稲田大学大学院理工学研究科環境・エネルギー専攻を母体とし、2007年度に開設されました。文理融合・学問領域統合型のアプローチ、現場・現物・現実主義に基づく実践-社会実験場-、４つの市民（産官民学）の共創による展開、大学の主体性・自律性を堅持した社会との協働、社会のための技術・手法の開発・提案・実践の５つを基本コンセプトとした教育・研究活動を展開しています。　環境・エネルギー分野の基本的な特徴として、カバーする学問領域が多岐にわたり、環境と資源・エネルギー間および個別環境項目のコンフリクトが存在すること、長期的な対応を必要とすること、自然環境や経済・社会・生活活動との強い関連があること、国や地域等の地政学的な特徴を考慮しながらアプローチを必要とすること等が挙げられます。　昨今のカーボンニュートラルや循環経済等のキーワードに代表されるように、環境・エネルギー分野は、持続可能な社会システムを構築するうえで、欠かせない重要なキーワードとなっています。さらに、昨今の社会情勢からもわかるように、何が正解かみえない不確実性の時代といえます。こうしたなかで、現場・現物・現実主義に基づき、本質的な問題を読み解く能力が社会的な要請となっています。　本研究科では、こうした社会的な要請に応える人材を輩出することを目的に、さまざまなバックグラウンドを有する教員が学生と有機的な連携を図りながら、教育・研究活動を展開しています。本研究科内にとどまらず、学内外の４つの市民との連携、学内の他学術院・研究科との連携も強化・発展させながら、時代・社会のニーズに即した教育・研究活動を発展させていきます。The Integrated Approach to the Field of Sustainable Environment and EnergyThe Waseda University Graduate School of Environment and Energy Engineering (WEEE) was established in 2007 based on the Environment and Energy Engineering major launched in 2005 in the Waseda University Graduate School of Science and Engineering. Its educa-tional and research activities are based on the five fundamental concepts of: (1) an arts-and-sciences integrated and academic-field integrated approach, (2) practical education on the 3-gen principle (actual place, actual object, and facts) using society as an experimen-tal field, (3) co-creation by four types of citizens (business, government, private, and univer-sity), (4) collaboration with society while firmly maintaining the university’s independence and autonomy, and (5) development, proposal, and implementation of technology and tech-niques useful for society.The basic characteristics of the field of environment and energy include conflicts between the environment, and resources and energy, as well as conflicts among individual environ-mental categories due to the wide coverage of the academic domain, a need for long-term efforts, strong relationships with the natural environment, economy, society, and daily activ-ities, and a need for an approach that takes into consideration the geopolitical characteris-tics of the country and local communities.The fields of environment and energy, as frequently described with recently popularized keywords such as carbon neutrality and recycling-based economy, have become essential terms for creating a sustainable social system. In addition, as the recent state of society sug-gests, we are in an era of uncertainty where we do not know what the ‘right answer’ is. Under these circumstances, society requires us to have the ability to decipher essential issues based on the 3-gen principle of the actual place, actual object, and facts.With the goal of producing human resources who can meet such social needs, WEEE carries out educational as well as research activities through organic collaboration between instruc-tors from various backgrounds and students. We will also expand educational and research activities beyond WEEE that are aligned with the times and social needs while strengthen-ing and developing collaboration with the four types of citizens inside and outside the school as well as other faculties and graduate schools of our university.研究科長　あいさつFrom the Dean持続可能な環境・エネルギー分野における統合型アプローチ
