　早稲田大学大学院政治学研究科は、1951年に設立された半世紀以上の歴史と実績を有する研究科です。代々受け継がれてきた伝統を大切にしながら、日々刻々と変化する国内外の情勢を的確に分析するための最新の研究手法を教授する研究科でもあります。私たちの研究科が持つ特徴は、以下の点が挙げられます。■ 政治学の分野を専門とする幅広い教授陣　早稲田大学が1882年（明治15年）に前身の「東京専門学校」として設立された折、政治経済学科が設立されたことに端的にあらわれているように、政治学を法学から独立した一つの学科として捉え、発展させてきました。また、政治学と一言で言っても、その事象を分析するためには様々なアプローチが存在します。私たち政治学研究科には、様々な専門分野を有し、国内外の学界をリードする研究者が所属しており、学生の教育にあたっています。■ 世界水準の独創的な研究の基礎となる「方法論教育」　世界レベルでの研究を実現するため、それぞれの専門分野の土台となる政治学を研究するための方法論教育を、私たち政治学研究科は重視しています。経験的方法・数理的分析・規範理論といった方法論を修士課程の１年次に修得することで、新たな研究上の視角を手に入れることができ、深みの増した、より独創的な先端的研究を生み出すことができます。■ 専門分野や研究室の壁を乗り越えた「合同指導体制」　大学院における教育は、ともすれば徒弟制にも似た教員と学生との閉ざされた研究室の中だけでのものになりがちです。私たち政治学研究科は、その壁を取り払い、研究領域・コースごとの合同指導体制を導入しています。メイン・アドバイザーやサブ・アドバイザーを中心とした複数の教員による多角的な視点からの、より開かれた柔軟な研究指導を行います。■ 豊富な科目群―個々の問題関心に応じた柔軟な科目履修を実現　政治学研究科では修了するために必要となる単位数をはるかに上回る豊富な科目を設置しています。学生は個々の問題意識や関心に応じて、科目を選択し、履修することができます。■ 数多くのOB・OGの活躍　すでに当研究科を修了して社会の各分野で活躍するOB・OGを、私たち政治学研究科は数多く輩出しています。研究者を目指す学生、就職し社会での活躍を目指す学生、政界を目指す学生など、それぞれにとってのモデルとなりうるOB・OGの存在は、私たち政治学研究科が有する財産でもあります。A distinguished political science facultyWe have always regarded political science as an academic discipline independent of law, and have developed the department from this perspective, as is evident by the fact that our Department of Political Science and Economics was founded conjointly with the founding of our predecessor institution, Tokyo Senmon Gakkou, in 1882. Although regarded as a single academic discipline, political science applies a diverse range of methods to the analysis of events and phenomena. We, therefore, include researchers who are leaders in both the domestic and international academic communities in their respective specializations. At GSPS, these exceptional researchers also teach. An emphasis on methodology—the innovative world-class researchWe stress an education in the methodologies essential to political science research and to accomplishing world-class research in its various sub-disciplines. Mastering empirical, formal, and normative methodologies in the first academic year provides students with an up-to-date research perspective and enables them to conduct more innovative advanced research.A joint-guidance and seminar system that crosses the boundaries between fields of specializationGraduate school education is like an apprenticeship in that it often takes place in closed seminar rooms with a faculty member and his or her students. GSPS has introduced a joint-guidance system within each research area and each course that removes the barriers between seminars and specializations. The system provides students with more open and flexible research guidance, given from diverse viewpoints by several faculty members, including their primary and secondary advisors.Diverse course groups—flexible course selection designed to accommodate individual interestsThe Graduate School of Political Science offers an abundant selection of courses that far exceed the number of credits that are required to graduate with a degree. Each student can thus choose and enroll in courses based on his or her understanding of problems and interests.Globaly active alumniOur graduates have found distinguished careers in a variety of fields.
